Tatiana KMIECIAK, international delegate for Switzerland at Les Jeunes IHEDN
My favourite quote:
Dare for greatness ! (Monique Castillo)
Presentation of the delegation:
Switzerland has always been outstanding from the perspective of its military strategy. The quote “Si vis pacem, para bellum” probably illustrates this fact its best here.
Peace has been embodied since 1815 by the signature of the Paris treaty enacting the perpetual neutrality of Switzerland. Nonetheless, in the sole county of Geneva, 21 international organisations are active around the topic of peace, security, and disarmament.
Preparation to war is reflected by a strong military presence into civil life. Most cities and many private houses offer bunkers that can protect the inhabitants in case of an attack. Conscription spans out from 18 to 35 years old and all conscripts keep their weapons at home. Iodine tablets are distributed in the mailboxes in view of possible nuclear incidents.
The Swiss international delegation was relaunched in January 2020 and aims at gathering around this common interest for defence by offering a set of federating events, taking advantage of the fascinating local landscape.
What Les Jeunes IHEDN means to me:
This is a unique chance to contribute to an exciting project around the defence spirit. Please reach out if you would like to join us!
